Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a Group Financial Controller to lead Iniala Group’s financial control, reporting and governance across the business. The role is responsible for overseeing both internal and external financial reporting, ensuring strong financial discipline, consistent reporting standards, and the integrity of financial information.

This role requires a technically strong, commercially minded finance professional who takes ownership and adopts a hands-on approach. A background in a professional accounting environment with exposure to the hospitality industry is essential.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Leadership and Oversight

  • Provide financial leadership, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies, financial standards and controls.
  • Act as the primary owner of financial control, the consolidation process and reporting across the Group (see below).
  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to senior leadership, providing objective challenge, insight and recommendations.

Group Reporting, Consolidation and Governance

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of accurate and timely financial reports, management accounts, and cash flow statements with commentary on comparisons to budgets.
  • Own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring disciplined timelines, accuracy and quality of outputs.
  • Establish and maintain a strong control environment to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Develop, implement and continuously enhance financial policies, procedures and governance frameworks.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Performance Management

  • Own the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts for the business.
  • Monitor financial performance, analysing variances, trends and risks, and translating data into clear, actionable insight.
  • Partner with operational leaders to drive improvements in profitability, cost efficiency and financial performance.

Cash Flow, Capital and Risk Management

  • Oversee cash flow management, liquidity planning and working capital optimisation.
  • Support capital expenditure planning and ensure robust financial evaluation, approval processes and return-on-investment analysis are applied consistently.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and work proactively with leadership teams to mitigate exposure.

Systems, Standardisation and Data Integrity

  • Take ownership of financial systems, reporting structures and data integrity.
  • Drive standardisation of chart of accounts, reporting formats and financial processes.
  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, automation and scalability of the finance function in line with growth plans.

Audit, Compliance and Tax

  • Lead audit processes and act as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements, tax regulations and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee tax planning, filings and compliance in collaboration with external advisors.
  • Present and clarify financial reports to the Audit Committee of the Group’s finance company.

People Leadership and Capability Building

  • Provide leadership and functional oversight to the finance team.
  • Develop the talent within the finance function through coaching and mentoring.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement within the finance team.

Strategic and Special Projects

  • Support group expansion initiatives, new openings and structural changes from a financial control and reporting perspective.
  • Lead or contribute to group-wide financial projects and ad hoc analysis as required by senior leadership.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University of Malta Accountancy Degree, ACCA/ACA or an equivalent accountancy qualification. Preference will be given to warrant holders. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial leadership role. Prior experience within the hospitality industry is strongly preferred. Candidates who have completed professional training with a Big Four firm before transitioning into hospitality will be given preference.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial systems, reporting tools and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting standards, tax compliance, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and strategic planning.
  • Proven track record of leading finance teams and partnering with executive leadership to drive growth and profitability.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels.
  • Hands-on, agile approach with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a dynamic environment.
  • High level of integrity, discretion and professional ethics.
